SpeakLisboa is a language-learning application focused on European Portuguese. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices available to you.

1. Information We Collect
A. Account Information
If you create an account, we may collect:
- Email address
- Firebase user ID
- Account creation metadata
B. Learning and App Data
To provide the app experience, we may store:
- Your onboarding answers
- Your saved vocabulary
- Your progress data, including XP, streaks, missions, achievements, and conversations completed
- Your subscription status
- Your in-app settings and preferences
C. Chat and AI Interaction Data
If you use the chat features, we may process:
- Messages you send
- AI replies generated for you
- Conversation context needed to respond to your request
- Selected conversation mode or scenario
Chat content may be transmitted through our backend infrastructure and AI providers in order to generate responses.
D. Purchase and Subscription Data
If you subscribe, purchases are processed by Apple. We do not collect your full payment card information directly. We may receive subscription status and entitlement information through Apple and RevenueCat.
E. Device Permissions and Audio
If you grant permission, the app may access:
- Microphone input, for speech-related features
- Speech and audio services available on your device
We only use these permissions to provide the requested functionality.
F. Technical and Diagnostic Information
We may receive limited technical information such as:
- App version
- Device or platform metadata
- Basic error or diagnostic information
- Authentication and request metadata needed for security, abuse prevention, and rate limiting
2. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Save your progress and sync it across sessions or devices
- Provide AI chat, lessons, vocabulary, games, and daily missions
- Verify and manage subscriptions
- Enforce free and paid usage limits
- Improve app reliability, safety, and performance
- Prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access
- Comply with legal obligations
3. Services and Providers We Use
We may use trusted third-party service providers to operate the app, including:
- Firebase, for authentication and database storage
- RevenueCat, for subscription and entitlement management
- Apple, for App Store purchases and platform services
- Cloudflare, for backend request handling and security
- xAI, or other AI model providers we may use in the future, to generate chat responses
These providers may process information on our behalf in order to provide the app’s functionality.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information only in the following circumstances:
- With service providers that help us operate the app
- When necessary to process subscriptions, authentication, storage, or AI responses

5. Data Retention

Deleting Your Account
SpeakLisboa includes an in-app account deletion option. If you delete your account, we will process the deletion of the account data associated with it, subject to the limitations described above.
7. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International Transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, depending on where our service providers operate. By using SpeakLisboa, you understand that your information may be transferred and processed internationally.
9. Children's Privacy
SpeakLisboa is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
10. AI and Educational Content
SpeakLisboa provides AI-generated content for language-learning purposes. AI responses may be imperfect, incomplete, or inappropriate in some cases. Users should use their judgment and not rely on the app for legal, medical, financial, or other high-risk advice.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and may provide additional notice where appropriate.
